The natural beauty of the stone emerges through the intentional simplicity of the this lamp’s shape. Highlighting these positive qualities is always Ian’s priority when designing anything in stone. The result is a piece of stonework that capitalises on the inherently tactile nature of stone as a material to be equally pleasing both to the touch and to the eye.
Each piece of British stone is specially selected to be of the highest quality. These stones are then hand-worked into oval shapes by our stonemasons in Staffordshire, ensuring the absolute finest quality of craftsmanship. A slight chamfer is applied to the otp and bottom of the design to enhance its curves and create a shadow. The finished stone is then hand-honed and sealed to create a surprisingly warm feel to the touch.
We have paid close attention to detail, finishing the lamp with a braided cable, complementary antique brass fittings and our mason’s mark of authentication, a solid bronze coin, set into the back of the base.
Subtle variations in the stone and the fabric of the handmade, bespoke, silk shades guarantee that every lamp is unique.
Portland Roach is a distinctive and immediately recognisable, open-textured limestone.
Unique and full of character and interest, Roach has many holes scattered throughout, containing large grey shell fragments, including turreted gastropods (Portland Screws) as well as large clams.
The stone is a typical creamy/white Portland colour, although the large concentrations of grey shells can darken the overall colour.
Woven from an incredibly luxurious all-natural silk, our lampshades are painstakingly rolled and neatly tucked for a delicately unique finish. The silk shades are produced to display some natural slubbing, adding to their character.
We go to great lengths to combine the subtle variations of each stone with the finish of each lampshade to give the completed lamp a subtle and carefully considered character of its own.
