The striking contrast of stone choice on this lamp base highlights the drama you can achieve with natural stone. Ian’s priority when designing is to draw attention to the material with deceptively simple design. Stone is an incredibly tactile material and should be equally pleasing to the touch and to the eye.
Each block of British stone is specially selected then the pieces are hand-worked separately before being bonded together creating prominent shadows. The lamps are painstakingly hand finished by our stonemasons in Staffordshire, ensuring the absolute finest quality of craftsmanship. The finished stone is hand-honed and sealed giving a surprisingly warm feel.
We have paid close attention to detail, finishing the lamp with a braided cable, complementary antique brass fittings and our mason’s mark of authentication, a solid bronze coin, set into the back of the base.
Subtle variations in the stone and the fabric of the handmade, bespoke, silk shades guarantee that every lamp is unique.
Ancaster Weatherbed is an interesting Jurassic limestone quarried in Lincolnshire, with an attractive regular showing of fossils and shells.
It’s very fine grained with a beautiful warm beige base and blue/brown variations and has been used for sculptures by Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore.
Woven from an incredibly luxurious all-natural silk, our lampshades are painstakingly rolled and neatly tucked for a delicately unique finish. The silk shades are produced to display some natural slubbing, adding to their character.
We go to great lengths to combine the subtle variations of each stone with the finish of each lampshade to give the completed lamp a subtle and carefully considered character of its own.
