Bespoke stone staircases are now part of the Ian Knapper portfolio - Jun 2007

Staffordshire based fireplace designer, Ian Knapper, has built an enviable reputation for designing and making beautiful stone fireplaces.  His work is now in demand by rock stars and royalty alike and Ian often works alongside many notable interior designers on projects of significant distinction.

Building on the company’s success Ian is now taking commissions for a range of stunning staircases, two examples are featured here. Using the same bespoke design and craftsmen techniques, he has produced these natural stone staircases, which are truly unique.

Ian sees the decision to develop the business in this new direction as a natural progression. “I initially established the business with the sole intention of creating fireplaces of real beauty and distinction and we very quickly gained recognition for our unique design approach.  Once clients recognised what we could produce we were asked to create other interior stonework projects like stone staircases,” Ian commented.

In recognising this gap in the market, Ian offers the complete service, from design through to installation. The team has the design and the structural capabilities of handling projects of all different shapes and sizes, thus allowing them to create something to a client’s specific brief and budget. To date Ian and his team have designed and made several different staircases for their clients.

The cantilever staircase featured here is a classic design, which creates the illusion that it is defying gravity, as it gently curves round and down to the lower floor.

The spiral staircase is another beautiful focal point for an entrance hall that gently winds around the central column and is supported by a beautiful balustrade.  Both of these creations demanded time, energy and meticulous attention to detail, a hallmark of the Ian Knapper brand that is rapidly becoming the benchmark for innovative design in stone.
